Fifty Years of Friendship
and Cooperation between Germany and France
200 balloons in the
color of the German and French national flags (white, blue; black, red, gold)
went on air in Neuss (Rhineland) at the 50th celebration of the “Elysée treaty”. Schoolboys
and -girls had the idea to remind to the public that Konrad Adenauer and
Charles de Gaulle marked at the 22nd of January 1963 a turning point
in the relations of both countries – after a long period of horrible hostility.
Our EJ Vice-president Rotger Kindermann,
promoter of the initiative, has sent us some photos of this action in front of
the city hall of Neuss.
50 Jahre Freundschaft und Zusammenarbeit zwischen Deutschland und Frankreich
200 Luftballons in den
Farben der deutschen und französischen Nationalflaggen stiegen in Neuss in die
Luft anlässlich des 50. Jahrestages des „Elysée Vertrages“. Schüler und
Schülerinnen hatten die Idee, auf diese Weise öffentlich daran zu erinnern,
dass Konrad Adenauer und Charles de Gaulle am 22. Januar 1963 einen Wendepunkt
in den Beziehungen zwischen beiden Ländern eingeleitet hatten – nach einer langen
Periode schrecklicher Feindschaft.
